Arriving at Entebbe airport was just like coming home. After having lived and worked here previously, it was terrific to be back. Familiar smells, sights and sounds mad my heart want to sing.
We have spent many hours travelling along both excellent and appalling roads. We have seen some wonderful sights: the vegetation and the views, four people on one motorbike, people waving and smiling. Also some tragic ones – a road accident with fatalities, extreme poverty, where homes have crumbled and people are in rags or less. Each road trip has been memorable in one way or the other.
I have been deeply challenged by the work that Gertrude endeavours to do in a women’s prison in Kampala. She, has so little wealth and yet does so much with that little. I have so much wealth and yet I do so little with it. I prayer that will change as I re-prioritise my spending when I return to the UK.
One of the highlights of the trip so far was on Sunday. The whole team were working at the new Global Care centre in Rukingiri and future home for Moses B. We painted the walls of the entire building, painting non-stop for 6 hours. God has given some team members a gift for terrific singing and they were able to lead us in a range of songs: “There’s a hole in my bucket…”, Amazing grace….”, “You can’t get to heaven….”, to tremendous worship songs. It was a time of much hilarity as well as being a time to remember how awesome our God is, and who we are ultimately serving.
